The oatcake (In praise of …, 7 February) has a far longer local history than any Staffordshire Regiment’s tour of India; it is certainly traceable in the 17th century and more than likely much earlier, as a forthcoming book by North Staffordshire Historians’ Guild associate Dr Pamela Sambrook will show.
